A New Beginning

My recent passion for the topic of religion started with a Medium Article by Woodbury called “What Is A High Control Group? How to Spot Cults and Other Controlling Collectives.” The article came to my attention from a TikTok video that was quickly lost as I tried to get more information on the topic. It allowed me to think deeply about my spiritual connection. At that point, I had already spent years creating my own belief system that drew from a plethora of different religions that would make the church I grew up in recoil with the dangerous deviation.

I needed to see if there was a way to create your own religion. Not one where people follow you, but so I could label the deeply personal and complicated relationship that I have with spirituality. I wanted something that would not try to change me or force me to conform while still giving me room for growth and improvement. An opportunity for me to be myself and explore. That is when I discovered Unitarian Universalist, a religion that guides you to your own personal spiritual journey through shared values, community, and information. Although it was not the correct fit for me, I felt I was getting closer. A new belief system where you create your own practice by mixing things that exist within others. A spiritual journey without leaders or followers. Something that was genuine to my own personal beliefs.

Now, to support my own spiritual journey and to help spread awareness and knowledge to others, I have decided to create this website and a Tumblr blog. The hope is that this will be a place to learn about different religions, cultures, and beliefs to help guide people as they create work to become spiritually at peace.

I aspire to foster a community that supports people. A place where people can ask questions and get into debates that can cover deeply personal topics while still maintaining respectful communication. Respecting others’ beliefs is imperative to this learning community.

Education is essential to what I am trying to build. The free flow of knowledge with ease of use is fundamentally a way to illuminate communities and bring people together with understanding. Through this journey, I intend to learn a ton from both independent research and interpersonal connections. This is meant to have everyone kindly informing each other about the complexities of religion, spirituality, and science. I am excited to grow spiritually, and I hope you are too.

I have lots of great ideas about where this website could go. I am open to any suggestions and feedback. I am super excited about the future! The next post will mark the beginning of our spiritual exploration.

About Me

Howdy, I'm Kat!

Here to learn and spread knowledge

I am a person with beliefs that I feel passionate about. My belief's foundation is individual choice, the spread of information, and respect among people. I do not hope to convert people. I only spread my message to empower, educate, learn, and allow critical thinking on everyone’s personal religious journey. I do not know it all, but I have a thirst for knowledge

I have never claimed to be perfect. I was raised in a society with experiences that impact my way of thinking. I do my best and continue to grow. I provide context on who I am and where I come from to equip you with the broader circumstances that gave birth to this website.

I am a 28-year-old, raised female in the suburbs of Michigan. I continue to live there with my cat, who is my whole world. I work as a middle school ELA teacher at a title 1 public school. I was raised Roman Catholic, but have been practicing my own unique religion for several years. I learned about Unitarian Universalists and how they celebrate individuality while respecting other religions and I intended to document my journey.

I had a challenging time finding exactly how I felt about religion. The goal of this website is to help facilitate the idea and provide support in understanding religion and science. If you are interested in helping with the initiative, please reach out.
